THz-driven accelerators : the role of PDO-THz emission sources

 J. Lee, D. Park, M. Kumar, M. S. Hur

In our previous work, we suggested a novel THz (terahertz) emission source known as the "Plasma Dipole Oscillation" (PDO) [1]. This THz source is generated by the beating of two colliding laser pulses. In this process, electrons are dragged into the beat wave of the laser pulses and then released, oscillating due to electrostatic restoring forces. In this presentation, we will explore the PDO mechanism in detail and discuss how PDO-THz pulses can be applied to develop compact linear accelerators.
